Show Manager (Showman)

Showman is a solution that was developed for and is owned by Equestrian Sport New Zealand (formerly New Zealand Equestrian Federation) in 2003.

It is free for organisations running shows in New Zealand and who might need to submit results back to ESNZ. ESNZ have also made the solution available for other NZ shows, including pony club shows.

The program was developed with the venerable FileMaker Pro 6 software and is fully self contained. It is designed to be used where results might need to be entered on a laptop computer in the middle of some showgrounds where you have no Internet connection. Entries can be imported from a pre-defined spreadsheet format (see documentation below).

It runs on Macs and PCs (a stated requirement when developed) including Windows 98, Windows NT, 2000, XP as well as Mac OS 10.3 and 10.4. It has not been tested upon Windows Vista nor Mac OS X 10.5.

We are very pleased with the feedback we have had from users over the years.

Download

You can download quick documentation and software from this page. This software is designed for use, primarily on a laptop computer in at an event that has no network, internet connection and possibly no electricity. You will need to work through the manual before using the program.

Sep 07 Update

This version contains the dressage test updates introduced 1 October 2007.

Documentation

The documentation is currently a tutorial guide and a reference manual and these are Adobe Acrobat Reader documents. Virtually all modern computers can read these documents. In the wildly unlikely chance that you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download it from Adobe's web site here.

You may download the documentation from this link:

Software

To install the software below, first download the zip compressed file onto the computer that will be running the software and then expand the zip document.

You will then have a folder called Show Manager (possibly with a version number after it). Simply open that folder and double click on the Show Manager icon. You can, if you like, make a short-cut or alias to the Show manager program on your desktop or menu.

You will see that there are a number of files in the folder. They are all important, so do not move or rename any of them.

When backing up ShowManager, simply quit the ShowManager program, copy the entire folder to a CD-ROM or USB stick and then start the program again. Do this regularly. Please note that a backup should take a few minutes, not seconds. If it only takes seconds, there is probably something wrong.

You may download the program from this link:

Empty data files only (zip compressed) download, expand and copy into your ShowMan folder, replacing the like named files

Before using this version, enter your judges and then create all of your classes - with their entry fees and then go to Show set up and, at the bottom right click the copy classes to clipboard button then click the word "edit..." that appears. Replace the contents in the list with the clipboard (paste). This is a once per show action that gets the classes in the correct order - it is a work around for the way FileMaker sorts particular kinds of data. We are looking for a nicer way to handle this in the next beta.

Enjoy.

Transfer format

The transfer format is documented in the .pdf document linked below. Transfer files can be of a variety of formats (FileMaker, Text, Excel, etc.) provided they adhere strictly to the format described in the documentation.
