The manual stocktake procedure requires the user to scan or enter the code for every item in the catalogue and then check it's condition against stored information. It's a two step process for each item. When the stocktake is finished, you can then list all of the items that were missing.
Version 1.2.1 of Athenaeum introduces the concept of automatic stock-takes. This procedure makes it easy to find all items in the library that have not been "handled" for a specified time. Items that have not been "handled" are potentially missing from the library. To use this feature, simply click on the "Handled" button in the Catalog Utilities Screen (it's grouped with the other stocktake buttons).
Automatic stocktake ONLY checks usage of an item, not it's condition. If you need to check the conditions of items (to find all write-offs) as well as check the existence of an item you will need to do the normal manual stocktake.
