Adding SCIS Authority Data to Athenaeum

If your organisation is licenced to use the SCIS Authority data, then SumWare Consulting can provide you with the data in a format that can be used with Athenaeum.

You must request from SumWare Consulting the SCIS Authority data and submit with that request proof of purchase of a current SCIS Authority subscription before proceeding.

There are a couple of steps to get the data into Athenaeum, but they aren't hard.

Read all instructions first, please (particularly all of point 4).

  1. Download and expand the authority "merge" file sent to you by SumWare Consulting onto your hard disk
  2. In Athenaeum, go to the catalogue utilities and click the go to Authority List button. You should be looking at a list of entries.
  3. If you want to remove the existing authority entries, if any, then click the Find all button at the top of the list. Then, from the Mode menu, choose Delete All.
  4. From the File menu, choose Import Records and select the file that you expanded in step 1
  5. you will now see an import field mapping dialog box. There are three fields on the left called a_word, a_expansion, a_expansion2. These should line up with the same named fields on the right and have little right pointing arrows between them. If they are not lined up, then you can click and drag the names on the right up and down.
  6. click the Import button at the bottom left and then click the OK button in the next dialog.

The data will be imported. This will take a few minutes, because there are over 70,000 entries.

When this is done, go you can return the main menu (Control-1) and you can now use the SCIS Authority data.
