Athenaeum Light 7 and MARC utility import problem

This note is for customers using the MARC utility program and who have read and understood the associated manual, particularly page 14.

Athenaeum Light version 7 and later has a slightly different naming for some fields within the catalogue.

Customers who have also purchased the Athenaeum MARC utility (used to reformat MARC records into a format readable by Athenaeum) have noted that some fields of processed MARC data do not, by default, import into Athenaeum Light 7.

Specifically, the fields that do not align correctly are one or more of the following

  • cat_subjectKeyWords
  • cat_publisher
  • cat_itemID
  • cat_itemNotes
  • cat_purchaseAmount
  • cat_purchaseDate
  • cat_itemType

There are two ways to solve this problem.

Re-map the above fields to the correct fields in Athenaeum Light 7

This is an instant work-around which you can do now and have you going again, now.

When importing processed MARC data, you can simply remap the above fields at the Import Mapping dialog box by dragging the fields on the right next to the unmapped fields on the left and clicking between the two fields to show the arrow.

The alignment of the fields in question becomes:

cat_subjectKeyWords -> cat_subjects
cat_publisher      -> cat_publisherID
cat_itemID         -> cat_barCode
cat_itemNotes      -> cat_notes
cat_purchaseAmount -> cat_amountPurchase
cat_purchaseDate   -> cat_datePurchased
cat_itemType       -> cat_type

So, your import field mapping dialog would look like this (click to enlarge):

Note that Athenaeum will tend to remember the import map on future imports, until you change the mapping again, meaning this will probably be a one time task.

Download a revised MARC utility

We have produced a replacement set of data files for the MARC decoder that work with Athenaeum Light 7 (and future Athenaeum products) that exports the new field names. These files can be downloaded and expanded (they are compressed with WinZip) and then you simply replace the ".MR6" files in the MARC decoder folder.

Use the link below to create an email requesting download details for the replacement files.
